Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Crimson a sabre in pale, point to chief Or, over all a winged wheel of the last.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield is a Gold scroll inscribed "SOLDIERS FIRST" in Black letters.

Symbolism
Crimson and gold are the colors of the Ordnance Corps.  The sabre alludes to military nature of organization, with wings alluding to speed or "blitz" character of present day warfare, and motor vehicle wheel alluding to maintenance of machinery of which motor vehicles are the major component.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 7 January 1943.
